Modern Bathroom Cabinet Trends for 2023

For many people, it’s not the kitchen that’s the heart of the house – it’s the bathroom. The bathroom is the place where you relax the most, whether it’s with a nice shower or a long bubble bath. As a result, the bathroom must look as good as possible.

Still, you don’t need to renovate your bathroom entirely to change its look. All you usually need is a cabinet update. Here are a couple of trends for you to try out this year.

  1. Light, Non-White Tones

White bathrooms remain popular due to their ability to open up a space. That being said, more and more people are leaning towards warmer shades of white such as seashell, ivory, lavender blush, or cream whites. They add warmth to the space, while making it seem larger.

“The all-white look is beginning to fade out more and more. People will still take the essence of lighter tones but lean toward taupe, cream, light pinks, and warmer woods to balance spaces,” says interior designer Lindye Galloway.

  1. Sleek Cabinets

This year, we will continue to see minimalist designs in all modern homes. This is particularly true for bathrooms, as the reduction of cluttering elements gives a spa-like feeling.

As a result, homeowners are forgoing ornate cabinets with fancy panels and trims and going for flat-front cabinets. Shiny or eggshell finishes are preferred instead of the matte type, as they reflect more light and make the bathroom look much bigger.

  1. Art-Covered Cabinets

People are more and more passionate about intriguing designs, without necessarily making them into a pattern. They don’t want designs – they want a piece of art. They want a drawing big enough to cover the entire set of bathroom cabinets.

Finding cabinets that have already been painted before delivery can be rather challenging, and they may also be very expensive. This is why many homeowners choose to do DIY work on their cabinets. Decals and cabinet stickers with different murals are very popular in modern homes.

  1. Cabinets with Gold Accents

Gold accents are very popular as they add warmth to any neutral-colored room. They can add an air of elegance to the space without making it seem cluttered. It is the perfect choice for minimalist bathrooms where you want to maintain that look of luxury.

“Depending on the tone, gold goes with almost any color. However, it especially pairs well with neutrals. I personally love to use gold for light fixtures and cabinet hardware,” says Maestri Studio’s principal architect, Eddie Maestri.

You can try using gold accents for the handles and knobs of the cabinets, or perhaps cabinets and trims. If your cabinets have a neutral color or black, then you may try brushing gold dust on the trims and décor elements of the cabinets. This can help modernize an otherwise plain or old-looking cabinet.

  1. Floating Vanities

Floating vanities have been in style for a couple of years now, but they are taking off even more in 2023. As home prices are going higher, people are buying smaller homes to prevent huge debt. As a result, the bathrooms may not offer the spa-like space you are going for.

Floating vanities can give the impression that a bathroom is much bigger than it is. Most bathrooms have cabinets and vanities that sit on the floor, which creates a new edge for the floor. By opting for floating vanities, the floor will seem larger, giving the impression of a bigger bathroom.

  1. Dark Wood Cabinets

Dark cabinets are very popular in bigger bathrooms, and wood seems to be a very popular choice nowadays. Black-painted cabinets maintain popularity, but people are also shifting towards dark brown colors.

This is mainly because modern bathroom designs also incorporate plants – whether they are real or fake. People are trying to bring green spaces into their rooms, and dark wood cabinets go perfectly with this model.

“Darker colors are coming back. You'll notice richer, warmer wood tones paired with dark, more saturated finishes. Lots of textures will be showing up in all ways,” says interior designer Rebecca Rollins.

For instance, brushed wood cabinets and dark emerald-green walls are very popular choices for bathrooms these days. Mixed with some gold or copper elements, they will complete the design.
